The story behind the product
It all began when I got tired of the endless search for kids' bedding that was cool and kid-friendly, but not polyester and not made overseas. After being disappointed again and again, I realized that if you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself. So, I went looking for good quality, fun fabrics that would appeal to kids and parents alike.
Moms and Dads are looking for something that will grow with their child. The Sassy Brats collection appeals to little ones, school-age children, tweens, and parents. While kids look for fun and cool, parents look for durability. Not to worry, Mom and Dad, "durable" doesn't have to mean "polyester". It's all about cotton. The secret is in the weave.
The fabrics
All Sassy Brats bedding is 100% cotton and manufactured in Canada.
Sassy Brats duvet covers are made with a 200-thread cotton percale. Our sheets are a 400-thread cotton sateen. What's the difference?
The difference between a percale and a sateen is simply the weave. Percale is a balanced weave (think "basket"). It's your standard over/under kind of weave. This is exactly why I chose percales for my duvet covers. They wear better and don't show wrinkles to the extent that sateens will. Percales are great for kids' bedding because they are durable and for a natural fiber, they're pretty low maintenance.
A sateen uses "floating" threads which are extra threads running along the "warp" and "weft". What the heck does "warp" and "weft" mean?
Warp is a yarn that runs lengthwise in a woven fabric. Weft is a yarn that runs at a right angle to the warp.
These floating threads are what give sateen that sheen and softness, make wrinkles more visible, and ensure a higher thread count.
The product
Don't you just love the sound of "made in Canada"? It's so rare to see those words nowadays. It's getting harder and harder to find products that are made here, in our own backyard.
Canadian-made means quality. I have seen my product being manufactured first-hand and I have walked among the extremely talented group of people who produce my collections.
All of the above is what separates Sassy Brats from the other guys. I hope you will enjoy Sassy Brats bedding as much as I do.
